Harmony Korine has always been fascinated by youth and their generation. With this film he brings a new generation, who's been brought up with MTV and Disney (we can see here why Korine chose some actresses) and a generation who's always bored and always expecting more becoming a bit lost on what they want.
Spring Breaker trys to be as close to
documentary in the beginning and it changes to be a experience and
for this the film is as loyal to what really happens on the american
spring breaks as it can.
It's nice to see how some actress do
surprise us and show another side. And as usual James Franco does a
wonderful job as a narcissistic, over the top, rapper.
The images do remind us of Enter the
Void (it also shares the same cinematographer), with beautiful colors
and mesmerizing images.
It's definitely not what most people
are expecting. I can say that it's a satirical portrayed of a this
generation and it can also be interpreted as a fantasy that goes to
the end of their expectations showing how empty they are, making the
subject of the film a bit heavy. But if you watch with a open mind,
enjoy and accepted it as an experience, as this film is, you will
have a good time.
